Setting The Mood: 7 Do's and Don'ts to Achieving the Perfect Ambiance in the Bedroom
Creating the perfect ambiance to set the mood in your bedroom is one the easiest things you can do to improve your sex life. You’d be surprised at how much the look and feel of your bedroom influences your love life.
7 Dos and Don'ts to Achieving the Perfect Ambiance in the Bedroom
- A Clean Space
Do: Keep your bedroom free of clutter as much as possible. If you’re a naturally messy person, then just clear it a bit when you want to set the right ambiance. Throw away any trash, dump your kids’ toys in their own rooms and kick the dirty laundry into the closet or down the hall to the laundry room.
Don’t: Become so obsessed with a clean space that you are afraid to get it a little dirty when having fun. The point of your bedroom is to enjoy it, whether that is through relaxation or a little fun in the sheets and sometimes that can get a little messy.
Do: Invest in a smart light bulb where you can control the color of the light and the intensity it shines through an app on your phone or smart home device. Having the ability to dim your lights and choose a more sensual color is a game changer. Include some candles for added depth and ambiance. The best candles to add to your bedroom are flameless candles. You can buy them in all shapes and sizes and control them with a remote.
Don’t: Fill your room with cheap tea lights and heavily scented candles. There’s nothing like a raging fire caused by a candle that was knocked over to kill the mood. It’s the 21st century, its time to invest in flameless candles. The plus side is that you can add as many flameless candles as your bank account can handle, giving you the opportunity to really wow your partner.
Do: Find a room or linen spray that contains a light scent that smells “sexy”. Typically, the notes that evoke that feeling the most are sandalwood, vanilla, amber, and teak. Also, experiment with perfumes and colognes and try different scents. Take notice when your partner says, “I love that smell on you.” When you’ve found that scent, save if for the bedroom. That way, whenever you wear it, your partner will equate that smell to having great sex with you.
Don’t: Overpower your space with heavy scents. Too much in a small space can lead to eye and lung irritation and headaches.
Do: Keep the visual clutter down to a minimum. Use décor pieces and art that give you a sensual vibe. You can go as literal or as abstract with that as you want.
Don’t: Fill the space up with photos of your kids, parents, or grandparents. Nothing kills the mood faster than looking up and seeing your in-laws starring at your from behind the bed. Keep the photos of loved ones for the living room. If you need to have photos in your bedroom keep it of the two of you that elicit warm romantic feelings for the both of you.
Do: Find sheets that are soft and easy to clean. The last thing you want to worry about is getting something on sheets that can only be dry cleaned.
Don’t: Think that you have to splurge on the obligatory silk/satin sheets. Yes, to some, they are extremely sensual to feel against a naked body but to others it makes it too slippery to get a good grip (if you know what I mean). Experiment and find what works best for you and your partner.
Do: Turn on some music. It doesn’t have to be something sexual but something that evokes the feeling of love or the need to move your body in a sensual way. You can play it loud and move your body to the beat or keep it low and let it play in the background.
Don’t: Pick music that evokes feelings of anger, rage or something opposite to sensual.
If you need help coming up with the right songs look for sensual music playlists on YouTube music, Spotify, or anywhere else you stream music.
- A Lock
Do: Make sure the door to your bedroom has a functioning lock.
Don’t: Forget to lock it! Nothing will kill the mood faster then a tiny human opening the door asking you why you’re making those weird noises.
